Abstract
Data physicalization involves representing numbers and relationships using physical, tangible displays. These displays provide tactile, as well as visual metaphors for expressing and experiencing data, and can unlock new analytical insights and emotional responses. This Dagstuhl seminar brought together a diverse group of researchers and practitioners to explore the benefits and challenges of physicalization - computer scientists trained in visualization, virtual reality and human-computer interaction; architects of virtual and augmented systems; perceptual and cognitive scientists; and artists and designers. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, we explored physicalization, as a set of methodologies for representing data, for engaging audiences, and for artistic expression.

Shape-Changing Interfaces (Dagstuhl Seminar 17082)

Abstract
Shape-changing interfaces use physical shape change as input and output; such interfaces are emerging as an alternative way of interacting with computers. This seminar brought together researchers working on shape-changing interfaces to discuss three key themes: (1) The technologies involved in shape-change, including soft and modular robotics, smart materials, and mechanical actuation. (2) The design of shape-changing interfaces, including their key application areas, and their industrial and interaction design. (3) The user experience of shape-changing interfaces, including evaluations of such interfaces and psycho-physical evaluation results. The seminar set out to strengthen this new community, create opportunities for active collaborations, and to reach-out to other fields. The seminar was attended by 25 researchers from around the world. These researchers represented the disciplines of Computer Science, Design, Engineering, Robotics and Material Science. This seminar had no formal presentations, but instead focused on working-group discussion and report-back sessions. This report outlines the key findings of these sessions.

10461 Abstracts Collection and Summary – Schematization in Cartography, Visualization, and Computational Geometry

Abstract
The Dagstuhl Seminar 10461 ``Schematization in Cartography, Visualization, and Computational Geometry'' was held November 14--19, 2010 in Schloss Dagstuhl~-- Leibniz Center for Informatics. The seminar brought together experts from the areas graph drawing, information visualization, geographic information science, computational geometry, very-large-scale integrated circuit (VLSI) layout, and underground mining. The aim was to discuss problems that arise when computing the layout of complex networks under angular restrictions (that govern the way in which the network edges are drawn). This collection consists of abstracts of three different types of contributions that reflect the different stages of the seminar; (a)~survey talks about the role of schematization in the various communities represented at the seminar, (b)~talks in the open problem and open mic sessions, and (c)~introductory talks.
