Hoogle⋆: Constants and λ-abstractions in Petri-net-based Synthesis using Symbolic Execution

Abstract
Type-directed component-based program synthesis is the task of automatically building a function with applications of available components and whose type matches a given goal type. Existing approaches to component-based synthesis, based on classical proof search, cannot deal with large sets of components. Recently, Hoogle+, a component-based synthesizer for Haskell, overcomes this issue by reducing the search problem to a Petri-net reachability problem. However, Hoogle+ cannot synthesize constants nor λ-abstractions, which limits the problems that it can solve. We present Hoogle⋆, an extension to Hoogle+ that brings constants and λ-abstractions to the search space, in two independent steps. First, we introduce the notion of wildcard component, a component that matches all types. This enables the algorithm to produce incomplete functions, i.e., functions containing occurrences of the wildcard component. Second, we complete those functions, by replacing each occurrence with constants or custom-defined λ-abstractions. We have chosen to find constants by means of an inference algorithm: we present a new unification algorithm based on symbolic execution that uses the input-output examples supplied by the user to compute substitutions for the occurrences of the wildcard. When compared to Hoogle+, Hoogle⋆ can solve more kinds of problems, especially problems that require the generation of constants and λ-abstractions, without performance degradation.

DataGen: JSON/XML Dataset Generator

Abstract
In this document we describe the steps towards DataGen implementation. DataGen is a versatile and powerful tool that allows for quick prototyping and testing of software applications, since currently too few solutions offer both the complexity and scalability necessary to generate adequate datasets in order to feed a data API or a more complex APP enabling those applications testing with appropriate data volume and data complexity. DataGen core is a Domain Specific Language (DSL) that was created to specify datasets. This language suffered several updates: repeating fields (with no limit), fuzzy fields (statistically generated), lists, highorder functions over lists, custom made transformation functions. The final result is a complex algebra that allows the generation of very complex datasets coping with very complex requirements. Throughout the paper we will give several examples of the possibilities. After generating a dataset DataGen gives the user the possibility to generate a RESTFull data API with that dataset, creating a running prototype. This solution has already been used in real life cases, described with more detail throughout the paper, in which it was able to create the intended datasets successfully. These allowed the application’s performance to be tested and for the right adjustments to be made. The tool is currently being deployed for general use.

Assessing Factoid Question-Answer Generation for Portuguese (Short Paper)

Abstract
We present work on the automatic generation of question-answer pairs in Portuguese, useful, for instance, for populating the knowledge-base of question-answering systems. This includes: (i) a new corpus of close to 600 factoid sentences, manually created from an existing corpus of questions and answers, used as our benchmark; (ii) two approaches for the automatic generation of question-answer pairs, which can be seen as baselines; (iii) results of those approaches in the corpus.

An Augmented Reality Mathematics Serious Game

Abstract
This article presents the results obtained from an experiment using an Augmented Reality (AR) serious game for learning mathematical functions in middle school, in contexts that resort to Game Based Learning. A serious game was created specifically for this purpose and allowed to conduct an exploratory study with a quantitative and qualitative methodological approach, with two groups of teachers of different subjects: mathematics and informatics. The game, called FootMath, allows the visualization, manipulation and exploration of linear, quadratic, exponential and trigonometric mathematical functions, through the simulation of a 3D football game, in which the user can change the function parameters with different values, in order to score a goal. It was tested the potential use of AR technologies in learning scenarios, considering the teacher’s perspective. According to the findings, FootMath was considered to be a promising and innovative tool to be incorporated in real mathematics teaching scenarios.

CodeCubes: Coding with Augmented Reality

Abstract
CodeCubes is interface that uses Augmented Reality to stimulate Computational Thinking in young students. The visual programming blocks are replaced by paper cubes that have an Augmented Reality marker on each face. Each marker represents a programming instruction. The game is composed of three levels. It consists of programming a car course in a racetrack, driving from the start to the final goal. Code Cubes takes advantage of the physicality offered by Augmented Reality technology. We present the design and development of the game, focusing on its main characteristics and describing the various development stages. We also present the first results obtained by exploring Code Cubes. The results were positive, showing the potential of Augmented Reality interfaces in learning scenarios.

Scaling up a Programmers' Profile Tool

Abstract
The style of programming, the proficiency on the programming language, the conciseness of the solution, the use of comments and so on, allow comparison of programmers through static analysis of their code. The Programmer Profiler Tool, which has been commonly named PP Tool, is an open source profiling tool for Java language where the programmer’s ability can be classified in one out of five possible profiles and the distinction among them falls upon the levels of both skill and readability. Taking a set of correct solutions the comparison between solutions for the same problems is fundamental to evaluate proficiency on the analysed criteria. As such, there was a need to tune the tool in order to handle, simultaneously, with a bigger amount of programs and with a wider scope of solutions. By scaling up PP Tool it will be possible to apply it in a far wider scope of situations as it will be able to cope with programmers from different geographies, with or without formal education, between 1 and 20 years of experience amongst other factors. For that, a set of features were implemented and tested and are described in this paper.

Urban Evolution of Fafe in the Last Two Centuries

Abstract
Human Beings love to collect, store and preserve documents for later exploration leading to the creation of Archives. Actually, to consult municipal archives' asset, seeking information in order to explore the knowledge implicit in their documents, is the main reason for the existence of those memory institutions. On the other hand, it is known that the movement of people from dispersed living to concentration in urban environments has a strong impact both in human civilization and in the environment. This statement motivates Social Science researchers to study of urban evolution of cities. In this context and having noticed that Fafe’s Archive holds an important collection of municipal records (since XIX Century) concerning the application for authorization to construct or reconstruct private or public buildings, it came up to our minds to create a digital repository with those documents enabling their analysis. An information system shall be developed around it for information retrieval and knowledge exploration; it is also desirable that this application provides features to visualize the information extracted in convenient ways, like positioning buildings over a map. This paper discusses the development of the referred Web-based system to study the Urban Evolution of Fafe in the XIX and XX Centuries, focussing on the ontology created to understand the domain to be explored. The definition of a markup language (as a XML dialect), to annotate the Archive documents in order to enable the automatic data extraction and the semantic search, is also one of the paper topics. It will be discussed that this annotation was not defined from the scratch; instead, its design followed the ontology. It is actually an ontology-driven system. At last, the state of the Web interface (the system front-end) so far developed will be presented.

Improving NLTK for Processing Portuguese

Abstract
Python has a growing community of users, especially in the AI and ML fields. Yet, Computational Processing of Portuguese in this programming language is limited, in both available tools and results. This paper describes NLPyPort, a NLP pipeline in Python, primarily based on NLTK, and focused on Portuguese. It is mostly assembled from pre-existent resources or their adaptations, but improves over the performance of existing alternatives in Python, namely in the tasks of tokenization, PoS tagging, lemmatization and NER.

Abstract
This paper presents an unified approach for discovering genealogical information. It presents a frameworks for storing information concerning ancestors, locations, dates and documents. It also intends to provide a framework that is able to perform inference concerning dates by using constraints and for handling relations, locations and sources. The DSL presented also aims to help users store information from heterogeneous sources along with the evidence contained therein.

Profile Detection Through Source Code Static Analysis

Abstract
The present article reflects the progress of an ongoing master's dissertation on language engineering. The main goal of the work here described, is to infer a programmer's profile through the analysis of his source code. After such analysis the programmer shall be placed on a scale that characterizes him on his language abilities. There are several potential applications for such profiling, namely, the evaluation of a programmer's skills and proficiency on a given language or the continuous evaluation of a student's progress on a programming course. Throughout the course of this project and as a proof of concept, a tool that allows the automatic profiling of a Java programmer is under development. This tool is also introduced in the paper and its preliminary outcomes are discussed.

Specifying Adaptations through a DSL with an Application to Mobile Robot Navigation

Abstract
Developing applications for resource-constrained embedded systems is a challenging task specially when applications must adapt to changes in their operating conditions or environment. To ensure an appropriate response at all times, it is highly desirable to develop applications that can dynamically adapt their behavior at run-time. In this paper we introduce an architecture that allows the specification of adaptable behavior through an external, high-level and platform-independent domain-specific language (DSL). The DSL is used here to define adaptation rules that change the run-time behavior of the application depending on various operational factors, such as time constraints. We illustrate the use of the DSL in an application to mobile robot navigation using smartphones, where experimental results highlight the benefits of specifying the adaptable behavior in a flexible and external way to the main application logic.
