Augmenting Human Creativity with AI (Dagstuhl Seminar 25442)

Abstract
The advancements of available generative AI tools have the potential to change the creative processes of writers, artists, programmers, and designers. The Dagstuhl Seminar "Augmenting Human Creativity with AI" (25442) explored the grand challenges these tools pose to the discipline of design and human creativity more generally. Over the course of three days, academic researchers and Industry experts from the fields of Human-Computer Interaction, AI, and design came together to discuss how these technologies challenge accepted ideas of human creativity and what are the implications for the creative class when AI tools are used to augment creativity on a broader scale. The discussions revolved around three core themes: critical evaluation of AI-powered creative tasks, ethical implications of integrating AI into creative processes, focusing on ensuring the responsible and equitable use of these technologies, and the societal impact of delegating creative tasks to AI systems, including the potential consequences for the creative professions and cultural landscape. The seminar’s outcomes articulated a shared research agenda that moves beyond tool-building to focus on the design of infrastructure, practice, and educational frameworks that preserve creative agency and support diverse forms of expression. The seminar produced a collective vision, one that looks beyond building better tools and discusses an agenda towards cultivating the systems, norms, and learning environments needed to keep human creativity at the centre.

Defining and Fortifying Against Cognitive Vulnerabilities in Social Engineering (Dagstuhl Seminar 23462)

Abstract
Social engineering has become the main vector for human-centered cyber attacks, resulting from an unparalleled level of professionalization in the cybercrime industry over the past years. Hereby, through manipulation, criminals seek to make victims take actions that compromise security, such as revealing credentials, issuing payments, or disclosing confidential information. Little effective means for protection exist today against such attacks beyond raising awareness through education. At the same time, the proliferation of sensors in our everyday lives - both in personal devices and in our (smart) environments - provides an unprecedented opportunity for developing solutions assessing the cognitive vulnerabilities of users and serves as a basis for novel means of protection. This report documents the program and the outcomes of the Dagstuhl Seminar 23462 "Defining and Fortifying Against Cognitive Vulnerabilities in Social Engineering". This 3-day seminar brought together experts from academia, industry, and the authorities working on social engineering. During the seminar, participants developed a common understanding of social engineering, identified grand challenges, worked on a research agenda, and identified ideas for collaborations in the form of research projects and joint initiatives.

Technologies to Support Critical Thinking in an Age of Misinformation (Dagstuhl Seminar 22172)

Abstract
This report documents the program and the outcomes of Dagstuhl Seminar 22172 "Technologies to Support Critical Thinking in an Age of Misinformation". This seminar brought together experts from computer science, behavioural psychology, journalists, and policy makers to examine and define the challenges of misinformation and fake news in the internet and social networks. This included discussions of what constitutes misinformation, technological advances for both spreading and mitigating misinformation, and discussions around policies that can be created and implemented to address propagators, both active and passive, of misinformation. The goal of this report is to summarize and present the various challenges and options for the development and implementation of technologies to support critical thinking.
