Abstract
Systems of communicating automata are prominent models for peer-to-peer message-passing over unbounded channels, but in the general scenario, most verification properties are undecidable. To address this issue, two decidable subclasses, Realisable with Synchronous Communication (RSC) and k-Multiparty Compatibility (k-MC), were proposed in the literature, with corresponding verification tools developed and applied in practice. Unfortunately, both RSC and k-MC are not resilient under failures: (1) their decidability relies on the assumption of perfect channels and (2) most standard protocols do not satisfy RSC or k-MC under failures. To address these limitations, this paper studies the resilience of RSC and k-MC under two distinct failure models: interference and crash-stop failures. For interference, we relax the conditions of RSC and k-MC and prove that the inclusions of these relaxed properties remain decidable under interference, preserving their known complexity bounds. We then propose a novel crash-handling communicating system that captures wider behaviours than existing multiparty session types (MPST) with crash-stop failures. We study a translation of MPST with crash-stop failures into this system integrating RSC and k-MC properties, and establish their decidability results. Finally, by verifying representative protocols from the literature using RSC and k-MC tools extended to interferences, we evaluate the relaxed systems and demonstrate their resilience.

Submonoid Membership in n-Dimensional Lamplighter Groups and S-Unit Equations

Abstract
We show that Submonoid Membership is decidable in n-dimensional lamplighter groups (ℤ/pℤ) ≀ ℤⁿ for any prime p and integer n. More generally, we show decidability of Submonoid Membership in semidirect products of the form 𝒴 ⋊ ℤⁿ, where 𝒴 is any finitely presented module over the Laurent polynomial ring 𝔽_p[X₁^{±}, …, X_n^{±}]. Combined with a result of Shafrir (2024), this gives the first example of a group G and a finite index subgroup G̃ ≤ G, such that Submonoid Membership is decidable in G̃ but undecidable in G. To obtain our decidability result, we reduce Submonoid Membership in 𝒴 ⋊ ℤⁿ to solving S-unit equations over 𝔽_p[X₁^{±}, …, X_n^{±}]-modules. We show that the solution set of such equations is effectively p-automatic, extending a result of Adamczewski and Bell (2012). As an intermediate result, we also obtain that the solution set of the Knapsack Problem in 𝒴 ⋊ ℤⁿ is effectively p-automatic.

An Efficient Algorithm to Decide Periodicity of b-Recognisable Sets Using MSDF Convention

Abstract
Given an integer base b>1, a set of integers is represented in base b by a language over {0,1,...,b-1}. The set is said to be b-recognisable if its representation is a regular language. It is known that eventually periodic sets are b-recognisable in every base b, and Cobham's theorem implies the converse: no other set is b-recognisable in every base b. We are interested in deciding whether a b-recognisable set of integers (given as a finite automaton) is eventually periodic. Honkala showed that this problem is decidable in 1986 and recent developments give efficient decision algorithms. However, they only work when the integers are written with the least significant digit first. In this work, we consider the natural order of digits (Most Significant Digit First) and give a quasi-linear algorithm to solve the problem in this case.
