Reward Interfaces with Best-Effort Implementations

Abstract
Interface theories, notably interface automata, serve as expressive frameworks for component-based design, specifying component behavior and interaction in concurrent systems. Traditional interface formalisms specify assumptions that a component’s environment must satisfy and the guarantees that each component provides. This qualitative view of component interaction based on imposing strict assumptions and Boolean guarantees may, however, not be expressive enough to capture the system’s allowed or desired behaviors under different environments. In this paper, we introduce reward interfaces to support component-based design while accommodating multi-valued correctness requirements and adaptive best-effort satisfaction of component’s guarantees. Building upon interface automata, our framework enables modeling a rich class of quantitative component specifications. We propose formal notions of implementation, refinement and compatibility for reward interfaces. We study a class of reward interfaces with automata-based representations, for which we provide algorithms for checking compatibility and refinement, and existence of best-effort implementations. Our framework offers a comprehensive approach to reward interface specification and design.

A Model-Based Approach To Requirements Analysis

Abstract
A major task in designing embedded systems is the systematic elaboration of functional system requirements and their integration into the environment of the complete technical system. The main challenge is to handle the versatile tasks of coordinating a definition of behavior, which is appropriate to the problem. The problem- and design-specifications of the customer related product definition have to be adjusted with and integrated into the manifold requirements of the technical system design. Accordingly, the model-based requirements analysis and system-definition presented here defines a well-structured modeling approach, which systematically aids the goal-oriented formulation and adjustment of the different stakeholder-requirements with the aid of views onto the system and descriptive specification techniques. Thus it allows a clear specification of a consistent and complete system design. The central steps of this approach are implemented in a requirements management (RM) tool prototype called AutoRAID

Abstract
Service oriented computing is a new paradigm that is especially interesting in mobile environments. As a characteristics, functionality is hidden behind an interface and described as a black box with the help of a service description lan- guage. This enables participants of the network to enlarge the limited capabilities of their devices by using services provided by others. As service requestors and providers are not fixedly tied together but are dynamically matched and bound, this architecture is especially advantageous in mobile environments and their constantly changing situation
