Abstract
Streaming graph partitioners enable resource-efficient and massively scalable partitioning, but one-pass assignment heuristics are highly sensitive to stream order and often yield substantially higher edge cuts than in-memory methods. We present BuffCut, a buffered streaming partitioner that narrows this quality gap, particularly when stream ordering is adversarial, by combining prioritized buffering with batch-wise multilevel assignment. BuffCut maintains a bounded priority buffer to delay poorly informed decisions and regulate the order in which nodes are considered for assignment. It incrementally constructs high-locality batches of configurable size by iteratively inserting the highest-priority nodes from the buffer into the batch, effectively recovering locality structure from the stream. Each batch is then assigned via a multilevel partitioning algorithm. Experiments on diverse real-world and synthetic graphs show that BuffCut consistently outperforms state-of-the-art buffered streaming methods. Compared to the strongest prioritized buffering baseline, BuffCut achieves 20.8% fewer edge cuts while running 2.9× faster and using 11.3× less memory. Against the next-best batched method, it reduces edge cut by 15.8% with only modest overheads of 1.8× runtime and 1.09× memory.

Improved Rate for Non-Malleable Codes and Time-Lock Puzzles

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 362, 17th Innovations in Theoretical Computer Science Conference (ITCS 2026)

Abstract
Non-malleable codes allow a sender to transmit a message to a receiver, while providing a "best-possible" integrity guarantee to ensure that no attacker - who cannot already decode the message - can meaningfully tamper the message in transit. If tampered, the received message should either be invalid or unrelated to the original message. Non-malleable time-lock puzzles (TLPs) are a special case of non-malleable codes for bounded polynomial-depth tampering with very efficient encoding. In this work, we give generic techniques for constructing non-malleable codes and non-malleable TLPs with improved rate, which captures the ratio of a message’s length to its encoding length. A key contribution of our work is identifying a security notion for non-malleability, which we term "CCA-hiding", sufficient for our compilers. CCA-hiding is a relaxation of CCA-security for encryption or commitments to the fine-grained setting of codes, and requires that the encoded message remains hidden, even given a decoding oracle for any other codeword. Intriguingly, CCA-hiding does not imply non-malleability in the fine-grained setting, as is the case for encryption and commitments. Using our new techniques, we give the following constructions: - Rate-1 CCA-hiding TLPs in the plain model. - Rate-1 non-malleable codes for bounded polynomial-depth tampering in the auxiliary-input random oracle model (AI-ROM). - Rate-(1/2) non-malleable TLPs in the AI-ROM.

A flexible router platform for next generation network services

Authors: Lukas Ruf, Arno Wagner, Karoly Farkas, and Bernhard Plattner

Published in: Dagstuhl Seminar Proceedings, Volume 4411, Service Management and Self-Organization in IP-based Networks (2005)

Abstract
Autonomous services need a flexible router platform that provides the mechanisms to install, modify and remove services at run-time of the node without interfering with others. Instantiated services must have the ability to re-configure and to exchange service functionality themselves. Envisioned router platforms must be able to run multiple services in parallel and are required to scale with the number of network-interfaces while they need to provide a straightforward to use service programming interface. In this talk, we present the PromethOS NP router platform together with a service architecture to counteract distributed denial of service attacks in an autonomous way. PromethOS NP manages and controls a processor-hierarchy composed of host processors and network processors embedded in network interface cards. It provides a dynamically code-extensible router platform of which all processor tiers are at run-time programmable following a unified component programming model. The service architecture illustrates the capabilities of the router platform and its applicability to autonomous network services.
