A Geometric Approach to Integrated Periodic Timetabling and Passenger Routing

Abstract
We offer a geometric perspective on the problem of integrated periodic timetabling and passenger routing in public transport. Inside the space of periodic tensions, we single out those regions, where the same set of paths provides shortest passenger routes. This results in a polyhedral subdivision, which we combine with the known decomposition by polytropes. On each maximal region of the common refinement, the integrated problem is solvable in polynomial time. We transform these insights into a new geometry-driven primal heuristic, integrated tropical neighborhood search (ITNS). Computationally, we compare implementations of ITNS and the integrated (restricted) modulo network simplex algorithm on the TimPassLib benchmark set, and contribute better solutions in terms of total travel time for all but one of the twenty-five instances for which a proven optimal solution is not yet known.

Enumerating All Boolean Matches

Abstract
Boolean matching, a fundamental problem in circuit design, determines whether two Boolean circuits are equivalent under input/output permutations and negations. While most works focus on finding a single match or proving its absence, the problem of enumerating all matches remains largely unexplored, with BooM being a notable exception. Motivated by timing challenges in Intel’s library mapping flow, we introduce EBat - an open-source tool for enumerating all matches between single-output circuits. Built from scratch, EBat reuses BooM’s SAT encoding and introduces novel high-level algorithms and performance-critical subroutines to efficiently identify and block multiple mismatches and matches simultaneously. Experiments demonstrate that EBat substantially outperforms BooM’s baseline algorithm, solving 3 to 4 times more benchmarks within a given time limit. EBat has been productized as part of Intel’s library mapping flow, effectively addressing the timing challenges.

Peer Data Management

Abstract
Peer Data Management (PDM) deals with the management of structured data in unstructured peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. Each peer can store data locally and define relationships between its data and the data provided by other peers. Queries posed to any of the peers are then answered by also considering the information implied by those mappings. The overall goal of PDM is to provide semantically well-founded integration and exchange of heterogeneous and distributed data sources. Unlike traditional data integration systems, peer data management systems (PDMSs) thereby allow for full autonomy of each member and need no central coordinator. The promise of such systems is to provide flexible data integration and exchange at low setup and maintenance costs. However, building such systems raises many challenges. Beside the obvious scalability problem, choosing an appropriate semantics that can deal with arbitrary, even cyclic topologies, data inconsistencies, or updates while at the same time allowing for tractable reasoning has been an area of active research in the last decade. In this survey we provide an overview of the different approaches suggested in the literature to tackle these problems, focusing on appropriate semantics for query answering and data exchange rather than on implementation specific problems.
