Exploration and Complexity Management in Graph-Based Programming Environments

Abstract
Programmers often rely on different environments depending on the nature of their tasks. For large-scale software projects, IDEs help manage complexity through structured abstractions like files, modules, and classes, and provide tools for code visualization and navigation. In contrast, exploratory programming tasks - such as data analysis, rapid prototyping, and design space exploration - are better served by interactive environments like REPLs and Notebooks, which support incremental development and immediate feedback. However, these tools tend to prioritize either complexity management or exploration, limiting their effectiveness across contexts. This paper investigates a hybrid graph-based programming environment that bridges these two modes by building on Incremental Graph Code (IGC), a graph-based system for structuring, visualizing, and interacting with source code. We explore how IGC can support both complexity management and exploratory programming through three key features: projectional views for aggregating and navigating interrelated code and documentation, graph-type nodes for encapsulating subgraphs to manage structural complexity, and an exploratory programming view for managing branching executions and promoting experimentation. Together, these features suggest that graph-based environments like IGC can offer a unified platform for both systematic software engineering and dynamic, exploratory development.

Portuguese Far-Right Discourse on Social Media: Insights from Topic Modeling

Abstract
This study analyzes the social media discourse of leading figures from Portugal’s far right party CHEGA, examining 10,323 posts on X (formerly Twitter) published between late 2019 and mid‑2024. Using BERTopic, 59 latent topics clustered into two main discursive dynamics were found: (1) ideological and public, and (2) party, electoral and parliamentary related. Within the first dynamic, we conducted a focused sub-analysis of themes related with identity, immigration and security narratives - topics that display posting peaks around electoral cycles, suggesting the strategic use of emotionally charged, identitarian frames for political mobilization. The model exhibits strong topic coherence and lexical diversity, indicating its robustness in extracting thematic structures from politically polarized microtexts. Nevertheless, our findings are constrained by source, the absence of interaction metrics, and the unmet need to link online discourse to offline events. This study demonstrates how computational topic modeling can reveal strategic communication patterns in far-right political discourse and underscores the need for cross-platform and interaction-level research to assess broader societal impact.

CVTool: Automating Content Variants of CVs

Abstract
As academic professionals, we frequently need to create different versions of our CVs for project applications, career evaluations, or competitions. These versions may be chronologically structured or skill-oriented, covering specific periods and written in various languages. Even when using a LaTeX document as a base, numerous modifications are required each time an updated CV version is requested for a specific purpose. The primary objective of the project reported in this paper is to design and implement a web-based system (CVTool) that simplifies the management of LaTeX CV content while ensuring flexibility. The CVTool is built on a domain-specific language that enables the creation of various filters, allowing for the automatic content adjustment while preserving the original format. Information is extracted from the LaTeX document, and users can specify the sections, dates, skills they want to highlight, and the language in which the CV should be generated. Since the approach relies on an internal data representation derived from the original LaTeX document, it offers users the flexibility to manage content efficiently and extract the necessary information with ease.

Substructural Parametricity

Abstract
Ordered, linear, and other substructural type systems allow us to expose deep properties of programs at the syntactic level of types. In this paper, we develop a family of unary logical relations that allow us to prove consequences of parametricity for a range of substructural type systems. A key idea is to parameterize the relation by an algebra, which we exemplify with a monoid and commutative monoid to interpret ordered and linear type systems, respectively. We prove the fundamental theorem of logical relations and apply it to deduce extensional properties of inhabitants of certain types. Examples include demonstrating that the ordered types for list append and reversal are inhabited by exactly one function, as are types of some tree traversals. Similarly, the linear type of the identity function on lists is inhabited only by permutations of the input. Our most advanced example shows that the ordered type of the list fold function is inhabited only by the fold function.

Abstract
Openly available, collaboratively edited Knowledge Graphs (KGs) are key platforms for the collective management of evolving knowledge. The present work aims t o provide an analysis of the obstacles related to investigating and processing specifically this central aspect of evolution in KGs. To this end, we discuss (i) the dimensions of evolution in KGs, (ii) the observability of evolution in existing, open, collaboratively constructed Knowledge Graphs over time, and (iii) possible metrics to analyse this evolution. We provide an overview of relevant state-of-the-art research, ranging from metrics developed for Knowledge Graphs specifically to potential methods from related fields such as network science. Additionally, we discuss technical approaches - and their current limitations - related to storing, analysing and processing large and evolving KGs in terms of handling typical KG downstream tasks.

MiKO---Mikado Koncurrent Objects

Abstract
The motivation for the Mikado migration model is to provide programming constructs for controlling code mobility that are as independent as possible from the particular programming language used to program the code. The main idea is to regard a domain (or site, or locality), where mobile code may enter or exit, as a membrane enclosing running processes, and offering services that have to be called for entering or exiting the domain. MiKO---Mikado Koncurrent Objects is a particular instance of this model, where the membrane is explicitly split in two parts: the methods defining the interface, and a process part describing the data for, and the behavior of, the interface. The talk presents the syntax, operational semantics, and type system of MiKO, together with an example. It concludes by briefly mentioning the implementation of a language based on the calculus.

Compiler-Driven Power Optimizations in the Register File of Processor-Based Systems

Abstract
The complexity of the register file is currently one of the main factors on determining the cycle time of high performance wide-issue microprocessors due to its access time and size. Both parameters are directly related to the number of read and write ports of the register file and can be managed from a code compilation-level. Therefore, it is a priority goal to reduce this complexity in order to allow the efficient implementation of complex superscalar machines. This work presents a modified register assignment and a banked architecture which efficiently reduce the number of required ports. Also, the effect of the loop unrollling optimization performed by the compiler is analyzed and several power-efficient modifications to this mechanism are proposed. Both register assignment and loop unrolling mechanisms are modified to improve the energy savings while avoiding a hard performance impact.
