Fault-Tolerant Approximate Distance Oracles with a Source Set

Abstract
Our input is an undirected weighted graph G = (V,E) on n vertices along with a source set S ⊆ V. The problem is to preprocess G and build a compact data structure such that upon query Qu(s,v,f) where (s,v) ∈ S×V and f is any faulty edge, we can quickly find a good estimate (i.e., within a small multiplicative stretch) of the s-v distance in G-f. We use a fault-tolerant ST-distance oracle from the work of Bilò et al. (STACS 2018) to construct an S×V approximate distance oracle or sourcewise approximate distance oracle of size Õ(|S|n + n^{3/2}) with multiplicative stretch at most 5. We construct another fault-tolerant sourcewise approximate distance oracle of size Õ(|S|n + n^{4/3}) with multiplicative stretch at most 13. Both the oracles have O(1) query answering time.

Resilience in Knowledge Graph Embeddings

Abstract
In recent years, knowledge graphs have gained interest and witnessed widespread applications in various domains, such as information retrieval, question-answering, recommendation systems, amongst others. Large-scale knowledge graphs to this end have demonstrated their utility in effectively representing structured knowledge. To further facilitate the application of machine learning techniques, knowledge graph embedding models have been developed. Such models can transform entities and relationships within knowledge graphs into vectors. However, these embedding models often face challenges related to noise, missing information, distribution shift, adversarial attacks, etc. This can lead to sub-optimal embeddings and incorrect inferences, thereby negatively impacting downstream applications. While the existing literature has focused so far on adversarial attacks on KGE models, the challenges related to the other critical aspects remain unexplored. In this paper, we, first of all, give a unified definition of resilience, encompassing several factors such as generalisation, in-distribution generalization, distribution adaption, and robustness. After formalizing these concepts for machine learning in general, we define them in the context of knowledge graphs. To find the gap in the existing works on resilience in the context of knowledge graphs, we perform a systematic survey, taking into account all these aspects mentioned previously. Our survey results show that most of the existing works focus on a specific aspect of resilience, namely robustness. After categorizing such works based on their respective aspects of resilience, we discuss the challenges and future research directions.

Toward an Earth-Independent System for EVA Mission Planning: Integrating Physical Models, Domain Knowledge, and Agentic RAG to Provide Explainable LLM-Based Decision Support

Abstract
We propose a unified framework for an Earth‑independent AI system that provides explainable, context‑aware decision support for EVA mission planning by integrating six core components: a fine‑tuned EVA domain LLM, a retrieval‑augmented knowledge base, a short-term memory store, physical simulation models, an agentic orchestration layer, and a multimodal user interface. To ground our design, we analyze the current roles and substitution potential of the Mission Control Center - identifying which procedural and analytical functions can be automated onboard while preserving human oversight for experiential and strategic tasks. Building on this framework, we introduce RASAGE (Retrieval & Simulation Augmented Guidance Agent for Exploration), a proof‑of‑concept toolset that combines Microsoft Phi‑4‑mini‑instruct with a FAISS (Facebook AI Similarity Search)‑powered EVA knowledge base and custom A* path planning and hypogravity metabolic models to generate grounded, traceable EVA plans. We outline a staged validation strategy to evaluate improvements in route efficiency, metabolic prediction accuracy, anomaly response effectiveness, and crew trust under realistic communication delays. Our findings demonstrate the feasibility of replicating key Mission Control functions onboard, enhancing crew autonomy, reducing cognitive load, and improving safety for deep‑space exploration missions.

Efficient Neural Network Verification via Order Leading Exploration of Branch-and-Bound Trees

Abstract
The vulnerability of neural networks to adversarial perturbations has necessitated formal verification techniques that can rigorously certify the quality of neural networks. As the state-of-the-art, branch-and-bound (BaB) is a "divide-and-conquer" strategy that applies off-the-shelf verifiers to sub-problems for which they perform better. While BaB can identify the sub-problems that are necessary to be split, it explores the space of these sub-problems in a naive "first-come-first-served" manner, thereby suffering from an issue of inefficiency to reach a verification conclusion. To bridge this gap, we introduce an order over different sub-problems produced by BaB, concerning with their different likelihoods of containing counterexamples. Based on this order, we propose a novel verification framework Oliva that explores the sub-problem space by prioritizing those sub-problems that are more likely to find counterexamples, in order to efficiently reach the conclusion of the verification. Even if no counterexample can be found in any sub-problem, it only changes the order of visiting different sub-problems and so will not lead to a performance degradation. Specifically, Oliva has two variants, including Oliva^GR, a greedy strategy that always prioritizes the sub-problems that are more likely to find counterexamples, and Oliva^SA, a balanced strategy inspired by simulated annealing that gradually shifts from exploration to exploitation to locate the globally optimal sub-problems. We experimentally evaluate the performance of Oliva on 690 verification problems spanning over 5 models with datasets MNIST and CIFAR-10. Compared to the state-of-the-art approaches, we demonstrate the speedup of Oliva for up to 25× in MNIST, and up to 80× in CIFAR-10.

A Unified Approach to Discrepancy Minimization

Abstract
We study a unified approach and algorithm for constructive discrepancy minimization based on a stochastic process. By varying the parameters of the process, one can recover various state-of-the-art results. We demonstrate the flexibility of the method by deriving a discrepancy bound for smoothed instances, which interpolates between known bounds for worst-case and random instances.

Generic Single Edge Fault Tolerant Exact Distance Oracle

Abstract
Given an undirected unweighted graph G and a source set S of |S| = sigma sources, we want to build a data structure which can process the following query Q(s,t,e): find the shortest distance from s to t avoiding an edge e, where s in S and t in V. When sigma=n, Demetrescu, Thorup, Chowdhury and Ramachandran (SIAM Journal of Computing, 2008) designed an algorithm with O~(n^2) space and O(1) query time. A natural open question is to generalize this result to any number of sources. Recently, Bil{ò} et. al. (STACS 2018) designed a data-structure of size O~(sigma^{1/2}n^{3/2}) with the query time of O(sqrt{n sigma}) for the above problem. We improve their result by designing a data-structure of size O~(sigma^{1/2} n^{3/2}) that can answer queries in O~(1) time. In a related problem of finding fault tolerant subgraph, Parter and Peleg (ESA 2013) showed that if detours of replacement paths ending at a vertex t are disjoint, then the number of such paths is O(sqrt{n sigma}). This eventually gives a bound of O(n sqrt{n sigma}) = O(sigma^{1/2}n^{3/2}) for their problem. Disjointness of detours is a very crucial property used in the above result. We show a similar result for a subset of replacement path which may not be disjoint. This result is the crux of our paper and may be of independent interest.
