Abstract
We present a new fully dynamic algorithm for maintaining convex hulls under insertions and deletions while supporting geometric queries. Our approach combines the logarithmic method with a deletion-only convex hull data structure, achieving amortised update times of O(log n log log n) and query times of O(log² n). We provide a robust and non-trivial implementation that supports point-location queries, a challenging and non-decomposable class of convex hull queries. We evaluate our implementation against the state of the art, including a new naive baseline that rebuilds the convex hull whenever an update affects it. On hulls that include polynomially many data points (e.g. Θ(n^ε) for some ε), such as the ones that often occur in practice, our method outperforms all other techniques. Update-heavy workloads strongly favour our approach, which is in line with our theoretical guarantees. Yet, our method remains competitive all the way down to when the update to query ratio is 1 to 10. Experiments on real-world data sets furthermore reveal that existing fully dynamic techniques suffer from significant robustness issues. In contrast, our implementation remains stable across all tested inputs.

Engineering Algorithms for Dynamic Greedy Set Cover

Authors: Amitai Uzrad

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 371, 24th International Symposium on Experimental Algorithms (SEA 2026)

Abstract
In the dynamic set cover problem, the input is a dynamic universe of elements and a fixed collection of sets. As elements are inserted or deleted, the goal is to efficiently maintain an approximate minimum set cover. While the past decade has seen significant theoretical breakthroughs for this problem, a notable gap remains between theoretical design and practical performance, as no comprehensive experimental study currently exists to validate these results. In this paper, we bridge this gap by implementing and evaluating four greedy-based dynamic algorithms across a diverse range of real-world instances. We derive our implementations from state-of-the-art frameworks - such as [GKKP(STOC'17); SU(STOC'23); SUZ(FOCS'24)] - which we simplify by identifying and modifying intricate subroutines that optimize asymptotic bounds but hinder practical performance. We evaluate these algorithms based on solution quality (set cover size) and efficiency, which comprises update time - the time required to update the solution following each insertion/deletion - and recourse - the number of changes made to the solution per update. Each algorithm uses a parameter β to balance quality against efficiency; we investigate the influence of this tradeoff parameter on each algorithm and then perform a comparative analysis to evaluate the algorithms against each other. Our results provide the first practical insights into which algorithmic strategies provide the most value in realistic scenarios.

Abstract
The vast chemical space, encompassing virtually innumerable molecules and materials, presents both immense opportunities and significant challenges. The design and discovery of novel drugs and functional materials may be viewed as a search within this space; however, the sheer scale of potential candidates renders exhaustive exploration infeasible. To address this, we introduce Chemical Mapper, a framework that integrates topological data analysis with deep learning to enable the visual exploration and analysis of chemical latent spaces. At its core, Chemical Mapper employs mapper, a widely used tool in topological data analysis, to investigate the organizational principles of chemical latent spaces defined by molecular representations learned by geometric deep learning models. In doing so, Chemical Mapper not only highlights groups of molecular representations but also uncovers the relationships among them through linkages and branching structures. Our results show that Chemical Mapper reveals intrinsic patterns associated with molecular scaffolds, functional groups, and chemical properties, as well as the structural and functional evolutions of the molecules.

Abstract
Neighborhood graphs and clustering algorithms are fundamental structures in both computational geometry and data analysis. Visualizing them can help build insight into their behavior and properties. The Ipe extensible drawing editor, developed by Otfried Cheong, is a widely used software system for generating figures. One particular aspect of Ipe is the ability to add Ipelets, which extend its functionality. Here we showcase a set of Ipelets designed to help visualize neighborhood graphs and clustering algorithms. These include: ε-neighbor graphs, furthest-neighbor graphs, Gabriel graphs, k-nearest neighbor graphs, k-th-nearest neighbor graphs, k-mutual neighbor graphs, k-th-mutual neighbor graphs, asymmetric k-nearest neighbor graphs, asymmetric k-th-nearest neighbor graphs, relative-neighbor graphs, sphere-of-influence graphs, Urquhart graphs, Yao graphs, and clustering algorithms including complete-linkage, DBSCAN, HDBSCAN, k-means, k-means++, k-medoids, mean shift, and single-linkage. Our Ipelets are all programmed in Lua and are freely available.

SwiftQueue: Optimizing Low-Latency Applications with Swift Packet Queuing

Abstract
Low Latency, Low Loss, and Scalable Throughput (L4S), as an emerging router-queue management technique, has seen steady deployment in the industry. An L4S-enabled router assigns each packet to the queue based on the packet header marking. Currently, L4S employs per-flow queue selection, i.e., all packets of a flow are marked the same way and thus use the same queues, even though each packet is marked separately. However, this may hurt tail latency and latency-sensitive applications because transient congestion and queue buildups may only affect a fraction of packets in a flow. We present SwiftQueue, a new L4S queue-selection strategy in which a sender uses a novel per-packet latency predictor to pinpoint which packets likely have latency spikes or drops. The insight is that many packet-level latency variations result from complex interactions among recent packets at shared router queues. Yet, these intricate packet-level latency patterns are hard to learn efficiently by traditional models. Instead, SwiftQueue uses a custom Transformer, which is well-studied for its expressiveness on sequential patterns, to predict the next packet’s latency based on the latencies of recently received ACKs. Based on the predicted latency of each outgoing packet, SwiftQueue’s sender dynamically marks the L4S packet header to assign packets to potentially different queues, even within the same flow. Using real network traces, we show that SwiftQueue is 45-65% more accurate in predicting latency and its variations than state-of-art methods. Based on its latency prediction, SwiftQueue reduces the tail latency for L4S-enabled flows by 36-45%, compared with the existing L4S queue-selection method.

Integrated Memory Grouping and Power-Aware MBIST Scheduling for MPSoCs

Authors: Koki Asahina and Yasuhiko Nakashima

Published in: OASIcs, Volume 140, 7th Workshop on Next Generation Real-Time Embedded Systems (NG-RES 2026)

Abstract
Memory Built-In Self-Test (MBIST) is a widely adopted technique for testing memory. In modern large-scale SoCs, hundreds to thousands of embedded memories are integrated, and to test them efficiently, methods that group memories and test them in parallel within each group are employed. However, many existing approaches either do not account for test scheduling or rely on evolutionary methods, such as genetic algorithms (GAs), for grouping, which incur high computational costs. In this work, we propose a framework that covers the flow from memory grouping to test scheduling. Taking the specifications and layout information of multiple SRAMs into account, the framework comprises a flexible, fast memory grouping method and a scheduling method that minimizes the total test time under a power-constrained constraint. In the proposed approach, DBSCAN and rectangular partitioning are used to perform fast grouping while suppressing long routing connections, and an LPT-based greedy heuristic is employed to shorten the total test time under constraints on the power limit and the number of simultaneously active BIST controllers. Experimental evaluation using SRAM placement data based on the ASAP7 PDK shows that, compared with existing K-means, Greedy, and GA-based methods, the proposed method reduces the number of groups by up to 48% while achieving approximately 87× speedup in clustering runtime. Furthermore, compared with a commercial Industrial Solution, it reduces the test time by 53%. These results demonstrate that the proposed method provides high scalability and practical effectiveness for MBIST design, even in large-scale MPSoCs with a large number and variety of embedded memories.

Fairness and Efficiency in Two-Sided Matching Markets

Authors: Pallavi Jain, Palash Jha, and Shubham Solanki

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 360, 45th IARCS Annual Conference on Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science (FSTTCS 2025)

Abstract
We propose a new fairness notion, motivated by the practical challenge of allocating teaching assistants (TAs) to courses in a department. Each course requires a certain number of TAs and each TA has preferences over the courses they want to assist. Similarly, each course instructor has preferences over the TAs who applied for their course. We demand fairness and efficiency for both sides separately, giving rise to the following criteria: (i) every course gets the required number of TAs and the average utility of the assigned TAs meets a threshold; (ii) the allocation of courses to TAs is envy-free, where a TA envies another TA if the former prefers the latter’s course and has a higher or equal grade in that course. Note that the definition of envy-freeness here differs from the one in the literature, and we call it merit-based envy-freeness. We show that the problem of finding a merit-based envy-free and efficient matching is NP-hard even for very restricted settings, such as two courses and uniform valuations; constant degree, constant capacity of TAs for every course, valuations in the range {0,1,2,3}, identical valuations from TAs, and even more. To find tractable results, we consider some restricted instances, such as, strict valuation of TAs for courses, the difference between the number of positively valued TAs for a course and the capacity, the number of positively valued TAs/courses, types of valuation functions, and obtained some polynomial-time solvable cases, showing the contrast with intractable results. We further studied the problem in the paradigm of parameterized algorithms and designed some exact and approximation algorithms.

Beyond Exact Fairness: Envy-Free Incomplete Connected Fair Division

Authors: Ajaykrishnan E S and Daniel Lokshtanov

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 360, 45th IARCS Annual Conference on Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science (FSTTCS 2025)

Abstract
We study the problem of Envy-Free Incomplete Connected Fair Division, where exactly p vertices of an undirected graph must be allocated to agents such that each agent receives a connected share and does not envy another agent’s share. Focusing on agents with additive valuations, we show that the problem remains computationally hard when parameterized by p and the number of agents. This result holds even for star graphs and with the input numbers given in unary representation, thereby resolving an open problem posed by Gahlawat and Zehavi (FSTTCS 2023). In stark contrast, we show that if one is willing to tolerate even the slightest amount of envy, then the problem becomes efficient with respect to the natural parameters. Specifically, we design an Efficient Parameterized Approximation Scheme parameterized by p and the number of agent types. Our algorithm works on general graphs and remains efficient even when the input numbers are provided in binary representation.

Fair Rent Division: New Budget and Rent Constraints

Abstract
We study the classical rent division problem, where n agents must allocate n indivisible rooms and split a fixed total rent R. The goal is to compute an envy-free (EF) allocation, where no agent prefers another agent’s room and rent to their own. This problem has been extensively studied under standard assumptions, where efficient algorithms for computing EF allocations are known. We extend this framework by introducing two practically motivated constraints: (i) lower and upper bounds on room rents, and (ii) room-specific budget for agents. We develop efficient combinatorial algorithms that either compute a feasible EF allocation or certify infeasibility. We further design algorithms to optimize over EF allocations using natural fairness objectives such as maximin utility, leximin utility, and minimum utility spread. Our approach unifies both constraint types within a single algorithmic framework, advancing the applicability of fair division methods in real-world platforms such as Spliddit.

Simultaneously Fair Allocation of Indivisible Items Across Multiple Dimensions

Authors: Yasushi Kawase, Bodhayan Roy, and Mohammad Azharuddin Sanpui

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 360, 45th IARCS Annual Conference on Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science (FSTTCS 2025)

Abstract
This paper explores the fair allocation of indivisible items in a multidimensional setting, motivated by the need to address fairness in complex environments where agents assess bundles according to multiple criteria. Such multidimensional settings are not merely of theoretical interest but are central to many real-world applications. For example, cloud computing resources are evaluated based on multiple criteria such as CPU cores, memory, and network bandwidth. In such cases, traditional one-dimensional fairness notions fail to capture fairness across multiple attributes. To address these challenges, we study two relaxed variants of envy-freeness: weak simultaneously envy-free up to c goods (weak sEFc) and strong simultaneously envy-free up to c goods (strong sEFc), which accommodate the multidimensionality of agents’ preferences. Under the weak notion, for every pair of agents and for each dimension, any perceived envy can be eliminated by removing, if necessary, a different set of goods from the envied agent’s allocation. In contrast, the strong version requires selecting a single set of goods whose removal from the envied bundle simultaneously eliminates envy in every dimension. We provide upper and lower bounds on the relaxation parameter c that guarantee the existence of weak or strong sEFc allocations, where these bounds are independent of the total number of items. In addition, we present algorithms for checking whether a weak or strong sEFc allocation exists. Moreover, we establish NP-hardness results for checking the existence of weak sEF1 and strong sEF1 allocations.

Extending EFX Allocations to Further Multi-Graph Classes

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 360, 45th IARCS Annual Conference on Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science (FSTTCS 2025)

Abstract
The existence of EFX allocations is one of the most significant open questions in fair division. Recent work by Christodoulou, Fiat, Koutsoupias, and Sgouritsa ("Fair allocation in graphs," EC 2023) establishes the existence of EFX allocations for graphical valuations, when agents are vertices in a graph, items are edges, and each item has zero value for all agents other than those at its endpoints. Thus, in this setting, each good has non-zero value for at most two agents, and there is at most one good valued by any pair of agents. This marks one of the few cases when an exact and complete EFX allocation is known to exist for more than three agents. In this work, we partially extend these results to multi-graphs, when each pair of vertices can have more than one edge between them. The existence of EFX allocations in multi-graphs is a natural open question given their existence in simple graphs. We show that EFX allocations exist, and can be computed in polynomial time, for agents with cancelable valuations in the following cases: (i) bipartite multi-graphs, (ii) multi-trees with monotone valuations, and (iii) multi-graphs with girth (2t-1), where t is the chromatic number of the multi-graph. The existence of EFX in cycle multi-graphs follows from (i), (iii), and the known existence of EFX for three agents.

Reforming an Unfair Allocation by Exchanging Goods

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 359, 36th International Symposium on Algorithms and Computation (ISAAC 2025)

Abstract
Fairly allocating indivisible goods is a frequently occurring task in everyday life. Given an initial allocation of the goods, we consider the problem of reforming it via a sequence of exchanges to attain fairness in the form of envy-freeness up to one good (EF1). We present a vast array of results on the complexity of determining whether it is possible to reach an EF1 allocation from the initial allocation and, if so, the minimum number of exchanges required. In particular, we uncover several distinctions based on the number of agents involved and their utility functions. Furthermore, we derive essentially tight bounds on the worst-case number of exchanges needed to achieve EF1.

Compositional Reasoning for Parametric Probabilistic Automata

Authors: Hannah Mertens, Tim Quatmann, and Joost-Pieter Katoen

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 348, 36th International Conference on Concurrency Theory (CONCUR 2025)

Abstract
We establish an assume-guarantee (AG) framework for compositional reasoning about multi-objective queries in parametric probabilistic automata (pPA) - an extension to probabilistic automata (PA), where transition probabilities are functions over a finite set of parameters. We lift an existing framework for PA to the pPA setting, incorporating asymmetric, circular, and interleaving proof rules. Our approach enables the verification of a broad spectrum of multi-objective queries for pPA, encompassing probabilistic properties and (parametric) expected total rewards. Additionally, we introduce a rule for reasoning about monotonicity in composed pPAs.

Efficient Certified Reasoning for Binarized Neural Networks

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 341, 28th International Conference on Theory and Applications of Satisfiability Testing (SAT 2025)

Abstract
Neural networks have emerged as essential components in safety-critical applications - these use cases demand complex, yet trustworthy computations. Binarized Neural Networks (BNNs) are a type of neural network where each neuron is constrained to a Boolean value; they are particularly well-suited for safety-critical tasks because they retain much of the computational capacities of full-scale (floating-point or quantized) deep neural networks, but remain compatible with satisfiability solvers for qualitative verification and with model counters for quantitative reasoning. However, existing methods for BNN analysis suffer from either limited scalability or susceptibility to soundness errors, which hinders their applicability in real-world scenarios. In this work, we present a scalable and trustworthy approach for both qualitative and quantitative verification of BNNs. Our approach introduces a native representation of BNN constraints in a custom-designed solver for qualitative reasoning, and in an approximate model counter for quantitative reasoning. We further develop specialized proof generation and checking pipelines with native support for BNN constraint reasoning, ensuring trustworthiness for all of our verification results. Empirical evaluations on a BNN robustness verification benchmark suite demonstrate that our certified solving approach achieves a 9× speedup over prior certified CNF and PB-based approaches, and our certified counting approach achieves a 218× speedup over the existing CNF-based baseline. In terms of coverage, our pipeline produces fully certified results for 99% and 86% of the qualitative and quantitative reasoning queries on BNNs, respectively. This is in sharp contrast to the best existing baselines which can fully certify only 62% and 4% of the queries, respectively.

Efficient Neural Network Verification via Order Leading Exploration of Branch-and-Bound Trees

Published in: LIPIcs, Volume 333, 39th European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming (ECOOP 2025)

Abstract
The vulnerability of neural networks to adversarial perturbations has necessitated formal verification techniques that can rigorously certify the quality of neural networks. As the state-of-the-art, branch-and-bound (BaB) is a "divide-and-conquer" strategy that applies off-the-shelf verifiers to sub-problems for which they perform better. While BaB can identify the sub-problems that are necessary to be split, it explores the space of these sub-problems in a naive "first-come-first-served" manner, thereby suffering from an issue of inefficiency to reach a verification conclusion. To bridge this gap, we introduce an order over different sub-problems produced by BaB, concerning with their different likelihoods of containing counterexamples. Based on this order, we propose a novel verification framework Oliva that explores the sub-problem space by prioritizing those sub-problems that are more likely to find counterexamples, in order to efficiently reach the conclusion of the verification. Even if no counterexample can be found in any sub-problem, it only changes the order of visiting different sub-problems and so will not lead to a performance degradation. Specifically, Oliva has two variants, including Oliva^GR, a greedy strategy that always prioritizes the sub-problems that are more likely to find counterexamples, and Oliva^SA, a balanced strategy inspired by simulated annealing that gradually shifts from exploration to exploitation to locate the globally optimal sub-problems. We experimentally evaluate the performance of Oliva on 690 verification problems spanning over 5 models with datasets MNIST and CIFAR-10. Compared to the state-of-the-art approaches, we demonstrate the speedup of Oliva for up to 25× in MNIST, and up to 80× in CIFAR-10.
