Improved Algorithm for Reachability in d-VASS

Abstract
An 𝖥_{d} upper bound for the reachability problem in vector addition systems with states (VASS) in fixed dimension is given, where 𝖥_d is the d-th level of the Grzegorczyk hierarchy of complexity classes. The new algorithm combines the idea of the linear path scheme characterization of the reachability in the 2-dimension VASSes with the general decomposition algorithm by Mayr, Kosaraju and Lambert. The result improves the 𝖥_{d + 4} upper bound due to Leroux and Schmitz (LICS 2019).

Bisimulation Equivalence of Pushdown Automata Is Ackermann-Complete

Abstract
Deciding bisimulation equivalence of two pushdown automata is one of the most fundamental problems in formal verification. Though Sénizergues established decidability of this problem in 1998, it has taken a long time to understand its complexity: the problem was proven to be non-elementary in 2013, and only recently, Jančar and Schmitz showed that it has an Ackermann upper bound. We improve the lower bound to Ackermann-hard, and thus close the complexity gap.
